Hi! I'm Dr. Abby Girard, the founder of Ember Sexual Wellness. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, a certified sex therapist, and a behavioral researcher with a focus on relationships and sexual health after cancer. I'm also a mother, partner, sister, friend, advocate and serial hobbyist. I'm so glad you're here! -
I began as a young sex therapist in 2013, working in a sexual medicine practice. I was green, but so eager to help people have great sex lives. For the next six years, I worked with adults with all kinds of sexual and relationship issues. Then, in 2019, I was invited to talk to a group of gynecologic cancer survivors. I was anxious, but immediately felt at home. This small group of women were hungry for this information, for their stories to be heard and their questions answered. I left that night knowing that this was the space I needed to be in. Since then, I have moved my research and clinical practice to focus on what we call "Oncosexual Health." Which means sex after cancer. While I work in this space professionally, I also feel the need to reach so many more people with the essential information related to sexuality after cancer. And so, Ember Sexual Wellness was born. .
